2008 Word of the Year Goes to SWAG
In 2008, the word SWAG has been used, heard, and murdered at least 4 million times by rappers, actors, hood ni**as, media, white people, and friends and family alike. It has received the distinct honor of being 2008's Word of the Year.
SWAG, an abbreviation of the word swagger, refers to a laid back demeanor or a particular style that cannot be acquired by man and is specific to each individual. Hence the term, "that person has a lot of swag about them."
With songs like T.I.'s "Swagga Like Us", its hard to get around the overused word. Swag has been joined with other words to form offspring such as "Swaggalicious" or "Swaggerific." Terms like these make me want to take jack hammer to the head of whomever created them. But, too each his or her own... swag.
My question is this... How do you know if you have SWAG? Can swag be taught or is it truly innate? Do you have swag and if so, how do you know? Have you been told that you have swag?
My personal feelings about it is this... If you have true swag, then you don't have to tell anybody or make up little words like "Swaggalicious" because real recognizes real just like swag recognizes swag. You wouldn't have to tell anybody because people would automatically know from the swag that is exuding of your lifestyle, your persona, your demeanor.
For 2009, let's bury the word SWAG and adopt a new terminology. PLEASE PPL, stop putting SWAG in your facebook status'. Come up with your own term to loosely describe your style, and for some the style that you want to create.
