State of the Musical Union

Today's musical environment is a very lazy and unproductive one. The material being released is redundant and extremely irrelevant considering the times. The purpose of these variations of the art has somehow been forgotten and replaced by monetary gain for the individual or group. Education, information, entertainment are all valid purposes for music but not the only ones. Between 1998 and the present, the industry has embraced superficial music. Jewelry, cars, clothes, women, and street reputation are all subjects that receive continuous radio and television rotation. I understand that the supporters continue to buy the albums so the demand must be supplied, but at what cost? If there is a message in a song from a good musician, the public would embrace it in the same manner. Established artist are even changing their quality music making formula to be current. Currency isn't the most important issue. Relevance is. If you are a musician that loves to make ACTIVIST music because you believe in that cause, make it! You are in your position because you posses some type of talent. Use that talent to make change. Whether in your home or across the world, attempt to change something. Collaborate with the people your supporters listen to, attract new fans, venture into new markets, and make people want to listen to you. Continuously work on your craft to add to it and not take away from it. Teach others that admire you or your talent how to hone their own talent or passion. I remember a time when groups of artists would join forces like a musical league of justice. Numerous top selling musicians put aside their labels, pockets, and personalities for a greater good. where has that feeling gone? Either get it together people or RM: MRC has to do it and I promise "WE GOT THIS!!!"

Dictator Ay!
